Southern Region WWTP Projects
ADS Engineering provided various programming for Southern Region WWTP through Consultant Service Authorisation (CSA) contract. Programs range from simple configurations of existing programs, to creation of completely new programs and HMI interfaces for new equipment.




Aeration Basin Controls
(Current project)
ADS Engineering provided programming for Aeration Basin Air Inlet Valves, to provide optimal air flow on each valve to the Aeration Basin. As a part of the project, new remote I/Os were added and communication routines were provided for them. Project Highlights:
  • Adding new Remote I/Os on Ethernet RIO network.
  • Routines for new valves provided for controllable air distribution.
  • Implemented advanced logic for total of 36 Air Feed Valve drops to optimally distribute air in basins to meet DO (Dissolved Oxygen) and Nitrate requirements, and at same time control Air Blowers.

Pretreatment Odor Control System
(Completed in 07, 2009)
The PLC program for the new Pretreatment Odor Control System and accompanying chemical systems has been written for the ControlLogix PLC. DeviceNet communication to the electrical equipment (two MCCs and several ABB VFDs) provided accurate data to the plant personnel via new and upgraded HMI screens through plant network communication. Project Highlights:
  • Created PLC program in Control Logix.
  • DeviceNet communication with VFDs.
  • Design additional screens for the new Odor Control.

Aeration Basin Odor Control System

The Aeration Basin Odor Control System resembles in the architecture and functionality to the previously designed Odor Control System. Project Highlights:
  • PLC program created in Control Logix.
  • DeviceNet communication with VFDs.
  • Designed additional screens in iFix 5.0.

SRWRF PLC upgrades
(Completed in from 2010 - 2016)
Plant PLCs has been updated from Allen Bradley PLC5 series to ControlLogix series over the several years. The PLC system had been upgraded by replacing the Main PLC CPU to the ControlLogix CPU. On some PLCs the remote IO modules remained and only the communication modules were replaced, but on some of them all remote IOs have been replaced to ControlLogix modules. In some cases where equipment have been controlled in two different PLCs, the two PLCs have been merged to one redundant PLC for reliability and redundancy of equipment control.
Migration consisted of tag creation, program rewriting, developing new advanced control routines for the associated equipment and HMI communication driver update.
The crucial PLC logic for the main equipment has been created new, to improve stability, quality and add features usable features to the equipment system control.
The converted PLCs are: SR5 (Electrical Bldg. PLC), SR4 (Effluent Bldg PLC), SR14 (Hypochlorite Bldg PLC), SR3 (Sludge Pump Station 1 PLC), SR9 (Sludge Pump Station 2 PLC), SR7 (Digesters 1 PLC), SR10 (Digesters 2 PLC), SR6 (Solids Bldg PLC), SR2 (Blower Bldg 1 PLC), SR8 (Blower Bldg 2 PLC). Project Highlights:
  • Created tags for the PLC database
  • Migrated PLC software from the Allen Bradley RSLogix5 to the RSLogix5000.
  • Created new and improved logic for the most of the equipment.

Century Village Plant - PLC Logic Upgrade
(Completed in 01, 2011)
ADS Engineering provided PLC logic upgrade for the plant control system comprised from the three Allen Bradley PLC 5 controllers and the two Allen Bradley Compact Logix PLCs. The control system is locally monitored and configured with the PanelViewPlus 1500 HMI panel. Project Highlights:
  • Created new and improved existing PLC logic for the Reclaim Plant.
  • Designed Screens for PanelView.
  • Established communication over Radio Telemetry.

Waste Pumps Control Upgrade
(Completed in 09, 2013)
The system upgrade consisted from the replacement of the pump control to the variable frequency drives. Drives support the DeviceNet communication. The task was to incorporate communication and upgrade PLC logic to utilize variable speed feature and the data acquired directly from the drives. Project Highlights:
  • Upgrading new VFD, establishing DeviceNet Communication.
  • Writing new logic for DeviceNet communication.

Belt Press & Gravity Thickeners - PLC/HMI Control Software
(Completed in 06, 2011)
Three Belt Presses and three Gravity Thickeners have been upgraded to new Compact Logix platform and new control program is written for each of them. Also are designed new control screens for PanelView Plus 1500 touch panels that are spread though the Solids building. Project Highlights:
  • Converted PLC logic from Allen Bradley PLC5 to Compact Logic PLC.
  • Created new logic for control of BFP and GBT.
  • Designed screens for PanelViewPlus1500.
  • Established Ethernet and DH+ communication with existing plant control.
